Visual Idioms / Graphic Design 2 / OSU
This was the second project for Graphic Design 2 at OSU. The goal was to visualize idioms given to us at random with an illustration style of our choosing. I was given hold your horses, fit as a fiddle, and couch potato. The style I wanted to achieve was one seen in many comedy webcomics that use simplistic features to achieve a sense of humor. My professor also requested that we make our color schemes monochromatic to focus more on the form of the illustrations. To keep the colors from merging, I gave them textures that would complement the style of the form. My biggest obstacle during this project was finding a way to incorporate the text with the images. I tried placing text on top of the illustrations to make them united, but later, the professor and I decided to just place them around the images for aesthetic purposes. After completing this project, I learned how to enhance simple forms and make them more expressive with details and textures that would keep the idea of the composition apparent.
